Microsoft touts Windows 10 on Arm advances, including 64-bit emulation - ZDNet

Windows 10

It's been a while since Microsoft officials talked up what's happening with Windows 10 on Arm. But on September 30, Microsoft provided a bit of an update on some of the work that's been happening with that platform.

Microsoft confirmed in a blog post on September 30 that Windows on Arm will be able to run x64 apps with x64 emulation. Windows Insiders will get this capability in test builds in November. The blog post doesn't mention when this capability will be generally available.

Currently, Windows on Arm natively supports Arm apps, including ARM64 versions. But so far, only 32-bit Intel (x86) apps are supported in emulation. This lack of x64 emulation has limited the number of apps that can run on Windows on Arm devices, since apps that are 64-bit only haven't been able to run on these devices. In May, there were hints Microsoft was making progress on the 64-bit x86 (x64) emulation for Windows on Arm, however, as reported by Neowin.

Officials also said today that the company has updated an optimized Visual Studio Code to work on Windows 10 on Arm. In addition, Microsoft has been working to make the new Chromium-based Edge browser faster and less hard on battery life for the platform. And Microsot plans to "soon" release a native Microsoft Teams client optimized for Windows 10 on Arm, according to the blog post.

Microsoft also noted again that the company is working to ensure that existing apps will work with Windows 10 and Microsoft 365 Apps on Arm 64 via the company's App Assure program.

"We are working closely with Acer, HP, Lenovo, Samsung and Surface to bring these Windows 10 on ARM innovations and products to our shared customers," the blog post added.

Microsoft announced its Arm-based Surface Pro X 2-in-1 PC last October.

Chrissy Teigen has revealed she and husband John Legend have lost their baby, days after she was admitted to the hospital with severe bleeding.

The 34-year-old model shared the heartbreaking news on social media on Wednesday night, saying their little boy, 'Jack', died following complications.

'We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we've never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn't enough,' Teigan said.

The candid post included a series of black and white photos taken at the hospital, showing Teigen crying on her bed. She revealed the couple had begun calling their unborn baby boy, 'Jack'.

'We never decide on our babies' names until the last possible moment after they're born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack,' she continued.

'So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.

'To our Jack - I'm so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn't give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you.

'Thank you to everyone who has been sending us positive energy, thoughts and prayers. We feel all of your love and truly appreciate you. We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience.'

Teigen and Legend, 41, had revealed they were expecting their third child together in the music video for John's new single Wild in August.

The mother-of-two was hospitalized on Sunday night after enduring a month of bleeding due to having a weak placenta and had remained at the hospital since.

Forever Jack: 'We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack,' explained Teigen

Shortly after uploading her undeniably sad news to Instagram, Chrissy took to her Twitter page to further express her shock.

'Driving home from the hospital with no baby. How can this be real,' she wrote.

The four photos uploaded to Chrissy's Instagram paint a heartbreaking scene, with one of the pictures showing Chrissy crying and cradling Jack in her arms as John leaned next to them.

Another featured Chrissy sobbing as she held her hands to her face and sat at the edge of her hospital bed in nothing but a blanket and a bonnet.

Chromecast with Google TV requires an outlet for power, can't run on your TV's USB alone - Android Police

Chromecast with Google TV requires an outlet for power, can't run on your TV's USB alone

Google's new Chromecast with Google TV was just formally revealed at the company's Launch Night In event, but there's one noteworthy caveat: You can't power it with your TV's USB port. Unlike prior Chromecasts, it just sucks down too much power, so you'll probably need to free up another outlet behind the entertainment center.

Note all the fine print on the bottom here: "Chromecast with Google TV requires.... a nearby electrical outlet."

Google stated that "a nearby electrical outlet" would be a requirement during its stream (in the fine print on the bottom of the screen during a specific scene), and we have separately confirmed in our own testing that the Chromecast spits a warning message when you supply too little power. AP's own Ryan Whitwam ran into this issue trying to use his TV's USB port as a source of power for the dongle: It just couldn't spit enough.

Google's published specs don't state how much power it needs, but most TV USB ports have trouble pushing past one amp at 5V, and odds are that includes yours, so you should plan to have another way to plug it in. Thankfully, it comes with a sufficiently powerful wall wart; you just need somewhere to plug it in.

Indian startups explore alliance and alternative app store to fight Google’s ‘monopoly’ - TechCrunch

Google, which reaches more internet users than any other firm in India and commands 99% of the nation’s smartphone market, has stumbled upon an odd challenge in the world’s second-largest internet market: Scores of top local entrepreneurs.

Dozens of top startups and firms in India are working to form an alliance and toying with the idea of launching an app store to cut their reliance on Google, five people familiar with the matter told TechCrunch.

The list of entrepreneurs includes high-profile names, such as Vijay Shekhar Sharma, co-founder and chief executive of Paytm (India’s most valuable startup), Deep Kalra of travel ticketing firm MakeMyTrip, and executives from PolicyBazaar, Sharechat and many other firms.

The growing list of founders expressed deep concerns about Google’s “monopolistic” hold on India, and discussed what they alleged was unfair and inconsistent enforcement of Play Store’s guidelines in the country.

The conversations, which began in recent weeks, escalated on Tuesday after Google said that starting next year developers with an app on Google Play Store must give the company a cut of as much as 30% of several app-related payments.

Dozens of executives “from nearly every top startup and firm” in India attended a call on Tuesday to discuss the way forward, some of the people said, requesting anonymity. A 30% cut to Google is simply unfeasible, people on the call unanimously agreed.

Vishal Gondal, the founder of fitness startup GOQii, confirmed the talks to TechCrunch and said that an alternative app store would immensely help the Indian app ecosystem.

TechCrunch reached out to Paytm on Monday for comment and the startup declined the request.

In recent months, several major startups in India have also expressed disappointment over several of the existing industry bodies, which some say have failed to work on nurturing the local ecosystem.

The tension between some firms and Google became more public than ever late last month after the Android-maker reiterated Play Store’s gambling policy, sending a shockwave to scores of startups in the country that were hoping to cash in on the ongoing season of Indian Premier League cricket tournament.

Google temporarily pulled Paytm’s marquee app from the Play Store citing repeat violation of its Play Store policies. Disappointed by Google’s move, Paytm’s Sharma said in a TV interview, “This is the problem of India’s app ecosystem. So many founders have reached out to us… if we believe this country can build digital business, we must know that it is at somebody else’s hand to bless that business and not this country’s rules and regulations.”

Google has sent notices to several firms in India including Hotstar, TechCrunch reported last month. Indian newspaper Economic Times reported on Wednesday that the Mountain View giant had also sent warnings to food delivery startups Swiggy and Zomato.

Vivek Wadhwa, a Distinguished Fellow at Harvard Law School’s Labor and Worklife Program, lauded the banding of Indian entrepreneurs and likened Silicon Valley giants’ hold on India to the rising days of East India Company, which pillaged India. “Modern day tech companies pose a similar risk,” he told TechCrunch.

Some of the participating members are also hopeful that the government, which has urged the citizens in India to become self-reliant to revive the declining economy, would help their movement.

Other than its reach on Android, Google today also leads the mobile payments market in India, TechCrunch reported earlier this year.

The giant, which has backed a handful of startups in India and is a member of several Indian industry bodies, invested $4.5 billion in Mukesh Ambani’s telecom giant Jio Platforms earlier this year.

Ambani, who runs oil-to-retails giant Reliance Industries and is India’s richest man, is an ally of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Jio Platforms has attracted over $20 billion in investment from Google, Facebook, and 11 other high-profile investors this year.

The voluminous investment in Jio Platforms has puzzled many industry executives. “I see no business case for Facebook investing in Jio beyond saying we need regulatory help,” said Miten Sampat, a high-profile angel-investor on a podcast published Wednesday.

Google said in July that it would work with Jio Platforms on low-cost Android smartphones. Jio Platforms is planning to launch as many as 200 million smartphones in the next three years, according to a pitch the telecom giant has made to several developers. Bloomberg first reported about Jio Platform’s smartphone production plans.

These smartphones, as is the case with nearly 40 million JioPhone feature phones in circulation today, will have an app store with only a few dozen apps, all vetted and approved by Jio, according to one developer who was pitched by Jio Platforms. An industry executive described Jio’s store as a walled-garden.

A possible viable option for startup founders is Indus OS, a Samsung-backed third-party store, which last month said it reaches over 100 million monthly active users. As of earlier this week, Paytm and other firms had not reached out to IndusOS, a person familiar with the matter said.

The Gremlin Shockingly Unmasks Himself on 'The Masked Singer' - Billboard

The Masked Singer had its very first self-elimination on Wednesday night (Sept. 30) when the Gremlin surprised viewers at home by unmasking himself.

Partially due to the understandably unbearable heat in the fuzzy grey costume, the Gremlin is heard in the clip below telling host Nick Cannon, "I want to take this off right now."

He then lifts up his mask to reveal former boxer, actor and screenwriter Mickey Rourke to the surprise of judges Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong and Jenny McCarthy. “This is a ‘Masked Singer’ first,” Cannon said. “We didn’t get to vote, the other people didn’t get to come out. Mickey said, 'Dammit, it's hot. I'm taking it off.'"

When asked why he did The Masked Singer, Rourke replied, "I was in the neighborhood. I like the show, I watched four episodes and they asked if I’d be interested so I watched from the very beginning and all that s---.”

Rourke is the second contestant to be eliminated from this season's The Masked Singer. Last week, the Dragon was revealed to be Busta Rhymes.

Google's 'Hold for Me' Assistant feature appears first on new Pixel phones - Engadget

When the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G arrive, they’ll include an early preview of Google’s new feature for the Phone app, the Duplex-powered “Hold for Me.” Mentioned during the Launch Night presentation and explained in a blog post, it lets Google Assistant wait around and wait for someone to pick up when a business is keeping you on hold.

It follows Call Screen and Verified Calls as new features that use Assistant to make phone calls less annoying, and repurposes the Duplex developments to let AI detect hold music and produce a notification once someone actually picks up. According to Google, you’ll see captions produced in real-time on your phone’s screen to let you know what’s happening, as Duplex can tell when it’s picking up a recorded message vs. a live representative.

Also worth noting, it doesn’t share the audio with Google or save it to your account unless you choose to have it shared for quality control. The audio processing is actually done on-device and not in the cloud, with recorded audio and transcripts deleted within 48 hours.

Microsoft

Microsoft has released an update of Windows 10 to help improve the Your Phone app. Build 20226, released Wednesday to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel, makes it easier to set up the app you can use to control your Android phone from your Windows 10 desktop

There's a new settings page where you can link a new device and remove a device more easily, as well as switching between active devices through the app. "Now each device is identifiable on its own device card with your personally sync'd wallpaper," Microsoft said.

The new functionality will "gradually" roll out to Windows Insiders using Windows 10. For now, here's how to run Android apps on your PC and how to upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

Watch ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Moderate Presidential Debate in ‘We’re All Doomed’ Video - Rolling Stone

“Weird Al” Yankovic teamed up with the Gregory Brothers for a comedic musical take on Tuesday night’s presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden with their video for the song “We’re All Doomed.” Yankovic and the Gregory Brothers’ satirical rendering accurately summed up the general consensus following the debate: “We’re all doomed,” Yankovic yells hysterically following a guttural scream to open the clip.

The visual finds Yankovic stepping in for Chris Wallace to portray the moderator. He scats, mirroring some of the nonsensical responses that ensued during the event before getting to some topical questions.

“2020’s a raging hellscape,” he sings while asking the first question. “Any ideas on how to stop a worldwide plague?” Yankovic also addresses the economy, the Supreme Court and climate change as the candidates’ words are turned into auto-tuned, sung responses.

Next month, Yankovic collaborator Jon Schwartz will release his new book, Black & White & Weird All Over: The Lost Photographs of “Weird Al” Yankovic ’83 – ’86, which features never-before-seen black-and-white images that he took of Yankovic in video sets and recording studios during the artist’s rise into the mainstream. The pair recently shared 16 photographs from the upcoming book and discussed their back-stories with Rolling Stone.

‘The Masked Singer’ Shocker: Here’s the Identity of Gremlin, Who Yanked His Own Mask Off - Variety

Don’t feed the Gremlin after midnight, don’t let it come into contact with water… and show caution when casting it on “The Masked Singer.” In a series first, “The Masked Singer” didn’t unmask a celebrity on Wednesday night — the celebrity did the unmasking themselves.

Mickey Rourke was the second performer to leave “The Masked Singer” in Season 4, having performed as the Gremlin. The furry, hot costume may have contributed to the premature exit, as Rourke decided to lift his mask after performing. (Scroll down to watch the self-unmasking.)

“Dammit, it’s hot, I’m taking it off,” he said, much to the surprise of the show’s panelists and host Nick Cannon.

“We’ve lost control, it’s the Gremlin show!” Cannon said, calling for help. But then it was too late. “This is a ‘Masked Singer’ first,” Cannon said. “We didn’t get to vote, the other people didn’t get to come out.”

Rourke opted not to do any press regarding his exit, further leaving all involved baffled. Asked on the show by Cannon why he wanted to do ‘The Masked Singer,’ Rourke said, “I was in the neighborhood. I like the show, I watched four episodes and they asked if I’d be interested so I watched from the very beginning and all that shit.”

On “The Masked Singer,” Rourke-as-the-Gremlin performed Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me.” Rourke dedicated the performance to his buddy Willy DeVille, a musician who died in 2009. “It meant a lot because this song was sung by one of my best friends ever, Willy DeVille,” he said. “Willy passed away a long time ago and I’ve missed him for a long time. I think the other night for some reason Willy sent me this song.”

Although they didn’t give their final guesses — Rourke took his mask off before they got to that point — but earlier, panelist Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg correctly guessed him. Other names that were guessed included Jerry Lee Lewis (Robin Thicke) and Stone Cold Steve Austin (Ken Jeong).

“Greetings, I’m Gremlin,” the character said in his clue package. “Despite my checkered history, I can actually be quite charming. A true romantic. You may have heard I can be a bit combative. But I have a fluffy side too. I adore all animals, long spins on the beach, and bashing worthy opponents with foreign objects for maximum impact. I also love to cook. Maybe you like what you see. I’d love to have you for dinner. I mean, over for dinner. But first, snuggle up as I serenade you.”

New this season, the show’s panelists are also competing for a “Golden Ear” trophy based on their first impressions of each masked performer — and in week one, Thicke and Scherzinger took the lead because they both chose Busta Rhymes. But in week two, it wasn’t revealed whether anyone’s first impressions were right (but it’s doubtful).

The episode’s Group B costumes also included Baby Alien, Crocodile, Whatchamacalit, Seahorse and Serpent.

Here were the other contestants and their performances in week two:

Lazy loaded image
Crocodile, “The Masked Singer” Courtesy of Fox

Crocodile

Song: “It’s My Life,” by Bon Jovi
Strength: “Tough skin”
Weakness: “Quick to snap”
Voice-over: “Welcome to lover’s lagoon, where soon I’ll croon and make you swoon. Becoming the crocodile was a natural selection, because I’m the happiest in water. And ever since I was a kid, growing up in Hollywood surrounded by heartache and instability, I was forced to develop a thick skin. But crocodiles get a bad rap for being cold-blooded, when actually inside I’m a warm, sensitive creature who just wants to be loved back. And I can’t wait to share my hidden talent as I make a wicked big splash.”
Panel guesses: Jon Hamm, Nick Lachey, Donnie Wahlberg

Lazy loaded image

Baby Alien, “The Masked Singer” Courtesy of Fox

Baby Alien

Song: “Faith,” by George Michael
Strength: “Interstellar cuteness”
Weakness: “Cranky at nap time”
Voice-over: “It’s time for my rebirth. See, I’ve been stuck in second gear for a while. Back when I was the cream of the crop circle, I was in a theater every week. Even beamed to the Tony Awards stage, baby. But before long, I became a second thought, lost in space. So I’ve opened my baby eyes to other passions. Navigating a new route where as the puppet master, my destiny is in my hands. And I got to get the golden mask in my crib.”
Panel guesses: Ralph Macchio, David Schwimmer, Freddie Prinze Jr.

Lazy loaded image

Seahorse, “The Masked Singer” Courtesy of Fox

Seahorse

Song: “Only Girl (In the World),” by Rihanna
Strength: “Making a splash”
Weakness: “Dangerous undercurrents”
Voice-over: “Howdy partners, y’all ain’t from these parts, are ya. You know, all my life I felt trapped by my insecurities and shyness, too scared to release the fire burning inside. And you may call me melodramatic but at times I felt lost in this world. Like I was always swimming upstream. But here, I get the chance to stop playing tug of war with myself and finally expose the dauntless diva from within. Underneath this camouflaged armor I’m harnessing the power of the seahorse to show shiny new sides of myself. Leaving all of my prior fears behind on this path to glory.”
Panel guesses: Halsey, Hailee Steinfeld, Bebe Rexha

Lazy loaded image

Whatchamacallit, “The Masked Singer” Courtesy of Fox

Whatchamacalit

Song: “I Wish,” by Skee-Lo
Strength: “Eyes on the Prize”
Weakness: “Tangles”
Voice-over: “I’m magical, mythical, jazzy, snazzy and full of pizazzy. You see, people think I’m a shy guy. Especially because I let others absorb my spotlight. As a bright hairball, I can shine alone, as this world is wide open. I can dance with the stars, surf candy bars, buzz with the bees and swing from the keys. It’s time to turn the tables on the world. Because I don’t want to be hair today, gone tomorrow.”
Panel guesses: Swizz Beatz, Dame Lillard, Tyler the Creator

Lazy loaded image

Serpent, “The Masked Singer” Courtesy of Fox

Serpent

Song: “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers
Strength: “Flexible”
Weakness: “High fives”
Voice-over: “Sup, friends? It took a chain of miraculous events to get here. Starting with when I was young. Mischievous and devious, a trouble-making sneakling. I was slithering furiously toward a path of destruction. But my pops saved me by sending me a one-way ticket away from the wrong crowd and toward a path of success. Lighting a fire inside me to aspire to new heights. I didn’t want to cause pain but heal pain. And I hope to raise everyone’s spirits tonight.”
Panel guesses: John Legend, Daveed Diggs, Leslie Odom Jr.

Apple’s App Store war doesn’t end with Epic - Yahoo Finance

Apple’s App Store war doesn’t end with Epic

Apple is surrounded by enemies on all sides. The tech giant, and first U.S. company in history to see its market value top $2 trillion, is facing a sustained backlash from app developers both large and small who say its App Store policies are unfair, and in some circumstances, violate antitrust laws.

The company has had similar accusations leveled at it in the past by the likes of Spotify (SPOT), but with federal and state investigations into Apple’s (AAPL) business practices heating up, the company’s critics are pressing their arguments harder than ever before.

This illustration picture shows a person waiting for an update of Epic Games' Fortnite on their smartphone in Los Angeles on August 14, 2020. (Photo by Chris DELMAS / AFP) (Photo by CHRIS DELMAS/AFP via Getty Images)

And perhaps no company is going after Apple with as much gusto as video game publisher and “Fortnite” developer Epic Games, which has filed a lawsuit against Apple claiming its App Store operates as an illegal monopoly

The dispute centers on Apple’s decision to pull “Fortnite” from the App Store after Epic added its own payment option in violation of App Store rules. On Monday, Epic argued that its smash hit “Fortnite” should be reinstated while the two heavyweights argue their cases.

The issue behind all of this? The 30% commission Apple charges app developers who sell their offerings through the App Store. And if Apple loses, it could have a direct impact on the company’s Services business, which pulled in $46 billion last year.

Epic’s ‘Fortnite’ fight

Apple requires app developers who sell digital goods through their apps to use Apple’s proprietary payment system. Using that system also requires developers to pay Apple a 30% cut of the total sale price of each purchase customers make.

Circumvent those rules, and you’ll immediately find your app kicked out of the App Store. Apple normally reviews all app updates to ensure developers comply with its rules, but Epic cut through this by simply pushing out a so-called “hot fix” for “Fortnite” on iOS that added a secondary purchasing option.

In addition to paying for in-app items using Apple’s payment method, Epic added the ability for gamers to pay using its own payment method. Epic even took the added step of giving gamers a discount for using its payment option.

Epic pulled off the same move with the Android version of “Fortnite,” since Google (GOOG, GOOGL) follows the same business practices and charges the same 30% for in-app purchases. Google, however, hasn’t received as much heat as Apple, because it, unlike the iPhone maker, allows consumers to download third-party app stores for Android phones.

Apple soon saw the change and yanked “Fortnite.” It then threatened to pull support for Epic’s Unreal graphics engine, which would impact developers who had nothing to do with Epic’s subterfuge. By pulling the Unreal Engine, app developers would be unable to address app updates or bugs using the software, leaving those companies that rely on the engine in limbo.

Epic, in response, has set up a website laying out its arguments for why it picked its fight with Apple. Apple, meanwhile, has said it won’t budge for one company, and that its App Store guidelines are in place to protect Apple users.

Now Epic and Apple are in court arguing about whether “Fortnite” should be reinstated while the outcome of the trial is still pending. Apple contends that it operates its App Store as a walled garden to ensure the quality of the apps that appear on its devices, and says it’s no different from how other app stores operate. Apple also argues that Epic benefits from the help the company offers in giving it access to the App Store and its audience.

What’s more, Apple says Epic could easily get back into the App Store by simply removing the secondary payment tool. There’s also the fact that Epic already sells “Fortnite” for a number of other platforms including PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC.

Epic may have a serious fight ahead of it.

“I think Epic faces an uphill battle in its antitrust case,” Stanford Law School professor Mark A. Lemley told Yahoo Finance this week. “I believe Apple's pricing policies are problematic, and antitrust law should probably do something about it. But courts are very reluctant to dictate who a company (even a monopolist) has to do business with.”

“Longer term, though, both Apple and Google are going to have to rethink their pricing policies around their app stores. I don't think people will put up with exclusivity and a huge premium forever,” Lemley added.

Epic isn’t the end of the line

Even if Apple gets through the Epic fight without issue, it isn’t the only company lining up to take on the Silicon Valley behemoth. A group of app developers, including Basecamp, Deezer, Epic, Match Group (MTCH), Protonmail, and Spotify have formed the Coalition for App Fairness, which is pushing for, among other things, the establishment of new rules that would eliminate the 30% commission.

In 2018, Netflix (NFLX) removed the ability for users to sign up for its service via the App Store to ensure that Apple doesn’t get a cut of its sales. And last year, Spotify, which has taken the same approach as Netflix, filed an antitrust complaint against Apple with the European Commission, the European Union’s competition watchdog.

More recently, Microsoft (MSFT) and Facebook (FB) have criticized Apple for the way it regulates game services offered through the App Store. Apple subsequently made changes to its App Store policies, but Microsoft said the firm didn’t go far enough.

And then there are the ongoing investigations into Apple’s App Store policies, which include the Department of Justice and state attorneys general.

The House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial, and Administrative Law is also looking into Big Tech companies including Apple, and questioned CEO Tim Cook, as well as the heads of Google parent Alphabet, Amazon (AMZN), and Facebook, about their business practices.

The Supreme Court even struck a blow against Apple last year when it ruled that iPhone owners could sue the company over its 30% App Store fees, opening the firm up to potential class action suits.

That means short of making system changes to its App Store policies itself, Apple won’t be escaping the specter of an antitrust crackdown in the near future.

Details Beginning to Surface on Massive Layoffs Coming to Disney Cast Members - The DIS

While Tuesday's announcement from Josh D'Amaro stating that the Walt Disney Company is getting ready to begin laying off 28,000 of their theme parks, Imagineering, and Disney Cruise Line cast members was alarming to most, there weren't many additional details revealed aside from that massive number.

In a new report that Disney filed with the State of Florida, we've learned that approximately 6,700 of the 28,000 impending layoffs consist of non-union employees. Those non-union layoffs are set to begin on December 4, 2020, according to an article in the Orlando Sentinel.

The Orange County Register in California adds that there an estimated 5,000 employees at the Disneyland Resort and 411 employees at Walt Disney Imagineering facing layoff.

Several of the unions who have members at Disneyland and Walt Disney World who will be affected by these layoffs have published statements regarding some of the specifics; take a look below. The first two images are from unions in California and the last image from Local 362 which represents six unions in Florida.

'The Bachelorette' host Chris Harrison promises the 'most explosive' season fans have ever seen - CNN

"Clare took us on a journey the likes of which we have never seen," he told Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday. "This will be a roller-coaster ride unlike any other."
"Clare is always one that wears her heart on her sleeve. She is always emotional. She's not a Bachelorette where I had to think, 'Where is she right now, emotionally? Where does she stand right now?'" he added. "Clare is ready to express herself."
Crawley, who was a finalist on Juan Pablo Galavis' season of "The Bachelor," was serious about finding love, Harrison told ET.
"She came into this unbelievably sincere and serious about finding love, finding a man, and it really wasn't about the pomp and circumstance for her. It wasn't about all the pageantry. It was about coming in and finding somebody, and I really respect the fact that this woman knows exactly what she wants and she is not afraid to go get it," Harrison said.
Former "Bachelor" finalist Tayshia Adams was also mysteriously brought in for the new season. Production was quarantined this season in Palm Springs, California, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Bachelor Nation and the world are not ready for what happened inside the (bubble)," Harrison said of the new location. "It is unlike anything we have ever seen on this show before. I know I say that sometimes, but I truly think we have outdone ourselves this time."
He added: "I think it definitely goes up on the Mount Rushmore of wild seasons of 'Bachelor' and 'Bachelorette.'"
