'Fortnite' gets a 'GI Joe' character with a matching action figure - Engadget

'GI Joe' Snake Eyes character skin for 'Fortnite' with Hasbro action figure
Epic Games/Hasbro

It’s no longer rare to see action figures for video game characters, but an action figure designed to accompany the character is relatively rare — and Epic Games wants to give it a try. The developer has released a Fortnite outfit for GI Joe’s Snake Eyes alongside an upcoming Hasbro action figure based on that skin. You’ll have to spend $40 to pre-order that real-world figure and wait until January 2022 to receive it, but it could be appealing if you like the mysterious ninja enough to want a physical memento.

Snake Eyes will rotate out of Fortnite’s shop at an unspecified point.

The collaboration is a not-so-subtle plug for the Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins movie tentatively premiering in October 2021. It’s far from the first major Fortnite tie-in, of course — you’ll find everything from soccer players to superheroes in the battle royale shooter. However, it’s clear Epic is branching out with launches that extend beyond the game itself. We wouldn’t be surprised to see more like this in the future.

2021 WWE Royal Rumble results, recap, grades: Edge, Bianca Belair emerge as winners on strong show - CBSSports.com

While there are other meaningful matches on every WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view card, the Royal Rumble matches themselves are the true highlight of the annual event. In 2021, both the men's and women's side featured impressive performances that saw the winners last nearly a full hour before securing their shot at a world title at WrestleMania.

On the women's side, Bianca Belair battled from the No. 3 spot, outlasting 29 other women before last eliminating Rhea Ripley. While Belair represents the new blood on the WWE roster, the men's side was won by a legend when Edge last eliminated Randy Orton to secure his title shot. Edge's win was the second time he had won a Royal Rumble match, this effort coming 11 years to the day after his previous victory.

Those two matches will be the lasting memories from the 2021 WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view, but the card was filled with entertaining and satisfying action from top to bottom.

CBS Sports was with you the whole way through the event, providing results and grades as the action went down. Read on for everything you need to know coming out of the Royal Rumble and scroll further for highlights from the show.

2021 WWE Royal Rumble results, grades

Women's Tag Team Championship -- Charlotte Flair & Asuka (c) vs. Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler (Kickoff Show): Flair and Asuka got things off to a good start, with Flair handling Baszler before Asuka took the fight to Jax. Baszler and Jax eventually took over by isolating Asuka and wearing her down while an anxious Flair paced on the ring apron. Flair eventually got the hot tag and ran through Baszler before hitting a double Natural Selection and scoring a near fall. Ric Flair's music hit, leading to a distraction that almost allowed Baszler to score a roll-up on Charlotte. Lacey Evans then interrupted from ringside, including pulling Charlotte's arms out while she was in the Figure Eight. Ric handed Evans something to load her fist and hit the Women's Right when Charlotte locked in the hold again, setting up Jax to pin Charlotte after a leg drop for the win to capture the titles. The match was fine, but the ending was entirely predictable and the tag titles continue to be more prop than valuable asset.  Jax & Baszler def. Flair & Asuka (c) via pinfall to win the titles -- Grade: B-

WWE Championship -- Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Goldberg: McIntyre hit Goldberg with the Glasgow Kiss dropped him with a spear before the match started, taking the action outside where Goldberg threw him into the ring steps before spearing him through the barricade. McIntyre eventually made his way back into the ring for the bell to ring, starting the match. McIntyre hit a Claymore seconds later, but Goldberg kicked out. Goldberg followed with two more spears for his own near fall. McIntyre again kicked out after a Jackhammer. McIntyre hit another Claymore, scoring the pin and retaining the title. After the match, Goldberg nodded, told McIntyre "You passed the test," and the two shared a handshake and hug. The match was short, as expected, and followed the "Goldberg Formula," for better or worse. For a match nobody really wanted to see, it was as inoffensive as possible, if unspectacular. McIntyre (c) def. Goldberg via pinfall to retain the title -- Grade: C+

SmackDown Women's Championship -- Sasha Banks (c) vs. Carmella: Banks was one step ahead early, but interference from Reginald allowed Carmella to take over the action outside put Banks on the defensive. Carmella continued to blast away at Banks with elbows and forearms and Banks began grabbing at her knee after hitting a meteora, allowing Carmella to continue running the match. Carmella threw Banks from the ring, where she was caught by Reginald. After Banks hit a huricanrana on Reginald, he was ejected from ringside, but Carmella hit Banks -- and the floor -- face-first on a suicide dive. Banks started rolling but Carmella countered a frog splash by getting her knees up and then locked in the Code of Silence to nearly force a submission. Moments later, it was Banks who got the submission with the Banks Statement, retaining her title. Carmella is a limited worker in some ways, but when she is working heel against a very good wrestler like Banks, she can more than hold her own playing into nastier offensive tendencies. Not everything here was smooth, but Banks is so good and Carmella good enough that there was plenty to like. Banks (c) def. Carmella via submission to retain the title -- Grade: B

Women's Royal Rumble: Bayley and Naomi started as No. 1 and 2, respectively. There were no eliminations before Bayley had to deal with her rival in No. 3 entrant Bianca Belair. After coming out at No. 4, Billie Kay settled in at the announce table rather than enter the ring before the first NXT entrant of the night, Shotzi Blackheart. Contestants continued to pile up as no eliminations were scored until Shayna Baszler dumped Blackheart for the first elimination of the match. Former superstar Jillian Hall was the first true surprise entrant of the night, forming an alliance with Kay to form "Billie and Jilly." Victoria also made her return, entering the match at No. 10. Participants continued to pile up in the ring with eliminations hard to come by before Hall was finally the second woman out, followed by Kay and the match settled into a more familiar rhythm after Rhea Ripley entered the match and she and Baszler began to clear out the ring.

Ric Flair's music hit -- with Charlotte already in the ring -- though Ric was only there to escort Lacey Evans to the ring, wearing the same robe as Charlotte wore earlier in the night. Charlotte and Evans battled immediately before an angry Flair turned her attention back to the rest of the participants. Mickie James also made her return, coming in at No. 19. Another return came at No. 21 with Alicia Fox, but R-Truth's music hit right after and he announced he was at the wrong Royal Rumble before being pursued by 24/7 title seekers, only to be pinned by Fox to win her the 24/7 belt.

Ripley continued to impress, scoring several eliminations. Belair also continued hanging around despite her No. 2 entry into the match. In the near-elimination spot, Naomi was thrown from the ring but landed on her back with her feet in the air, she then used Belair to climb her way back into the ring. Alexa Bliss entered at No. 27 and as she was preparing to transform as in recent weeks, Ripley eliminated her from behind. Nia Jax entered and she and Baszler went on a run of eliminations to thin the field late before brawling with each other and Jax eventually eliminated Baszler and was the eliminated by Lana before Natalya entered in the No. 30 spot to complete the field.

The final four in the match came down to Natalya, Belair, Flair and Ripley. Belair eliminated Natalya first and then Ripley and Belair teamed up to knock Flair from the match, leaving Ripley and Belair as the final two women in the match. The two battled back and forth in an extended segment with several near eliminations before Belair managed to knock Ripley from the ring with a clothesline to win the match. This was a bit of a rocky match at parts, many of the bigger issues being matters of production than in-ring, though some stretches dragged a bit. Belair is a great choice to win and coming down to Belair and Ripley showed how bright the future of the women's division is for WWE going forward. Belair also set a record for longest entry in a women's Rumble match. Bianca Belair won the women's Royal Rumble in 56:49 -- Grade: B

Men's Royal Rumble: No. 1 entrant Edge attacked No. 2 entrant Randy Orton before Orton even made it to the ring. They continued to brawl around ringside until Sami Zayn entered at No. 3 and took out the leg of Edge, helping Orton work him over. Mustafa Ali joined in on the attack at No. 4, with Edge facing increasingly long odds until Jeff Hardy entered to help even things up.The first elimination came when Dolph Ziggler entered the match and immediately eliminated Jeff Hardy. Carlito was the first surprise entrant, coming into the match at No. 8. Orton was shown being helped to the back by officials, limping after the attack of Edge. Damien Priest was the first NXT star to make his way into the match, coming in at No. 14 and making his first appearance in a Royal Rumble. The Miz destroyed Bad Bunny's DJ booth on his way to the ring, leading Bunny to walk to the ring, distracting Miz and John Morrison and allowing Priest to eliminate both. Bunny then hit a crossbody from the top rope to the outside on Miz and Morrison. Daniel Bryan, one of the favorites coming into the match, made his entrance at No. 17. Kane returned at No. 18, chokeslamming many of the current entrants and eliminating Dolph Ziggler and Ricochet before being tossed by Priest.

Bobby Lashley made a big entrance, running through Dominik Mysterio and Priest, eliminating both before a big showdown with Big E that saw both men brawl and exchange counters before the surprise entrance of The Hurricane, who was quickly tossed by Lashley and Big E. With Edge still in the match, Christian entered the match at No. 24. Christian helped Riddle, Bryan and Big E eliminate Lashley. Big E was eliminated from the match when Omos reached into the ring and pulled him to the floor. Omos also eliminated Rey Mysterio, giving some big help to AJ Styles.

Seth Rollins made his return at No. 29, his first match since Survivor Series, after which he took time off to be with Becky Lynch for the birth of their child. Braun Strowman was the final entrant into the match. Strowman went on a run of eliminations, bringing the final six to Rollins, Riddle, Edge, Christian, Bryan and Strowman -- although Orton had not actually been eliminated when he was taken to the back. Rollins eliminated Bryan after hiding out on the outside of the ring and then eliminated Riddle to bring the match down to Strowman, Rollins, Edge and Christian. Edge and Christian worked together to eliminate Strowman and Edge eliminated Rollins, seemingly winning the match, but Orton ran back into the match and hit an RKO. Orton's attempt to eliminate Edge backfired, however, as Edge reversed and tossed Orton to the floor, winning the Rumble from the No. 1 spot, lasting more than 58 minutes to win his second Royal Rumble. This dragged far less than the women's Royal Rumble earlier and didn't feel like it relied on as many gimmicky surprise entrants, though there were some. Edge was an interesting choice and told a great story as he's taking one more ride to WrestleMania and a shot at a world championship. Edge wins the Men's Royal Rumble match. Edge won the men's Royal Rumble -- Grade: A-

Robin Wright: Twitter bullying inspired new film 'Land' - Page Six

Robin Wright needed an escape from newfound horrors plaguing society, so she found herself directing a new movie about human kindness.

“I wanted to make a movie at that time because there was so much pain in our country. … Just the ugliness that was going on in the world with, you know, the explosion of Twitter,” 54-year-old Wright said during a Sundance Film Festival Cinema CafĂ© talk on Sunday with Rebecca Hall.

“Everybody was a judge and there was so much bullying going on. I thought about the effect that had on children, and how that’s changing, psychologically, our cellular makeup. All this darkness and meanness.”

Wright ended up directing “Land,” which tells the story of Edee (also played by Wright) who goes off the grid in nature to deal with her grief after a tragedy and realizes she needs other people for support.

“You need human connection and kindness to pull you through adversity,” the former “House of Cards” star explained.

When Wright wasn’t busy starring in and directing her new movie, which will be released on Feb. 12, she passed the time during the pandemic watching old movies on Criterion Channel.

“Land” premieres at Sundance on Sunday.

Apple releases Chrome extension for iCloud passwords - The Verge

Apple has released an official extension for the Windows and Mac versions of Chrome that lets you use passwords stored in your iCloud Keychain. For anyone who uses Chrome as their browser and iCloud Keychain in lieu of a dedicated password manager, this could make bouncing between Windows and Mac computers much easier.

The release of the extension means that if you’ve used Safari to automatically generate strong passwords on other platforms, those can now be available to you in Chrome when you’re prompted for a login. Passwords created in Chrome for Windows will also sync back to iCloud so they’ll be available on Apple devices as well.

The extension is called iCloud Passwords and is available now in the Chrome Web Store. Details of the functionality were prematurely revealed last week in an update for the iCloud Windows 10 app, which listed “Support for iCloud Passwords Chrome Extension” as a new feature, despite the extension not having been released or otherwise announced.

The Real Housewives of Orange County's Kelly Dodd defended her attendance at a crowded restaurant over the weekend amid the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that she and her friends have been vaccinated.

'The sheeple are mad,' the 45-year-old reality star said after she caught flak Saturday amid a pileup of controversies for her words and actions amid the coronavirus pandemic, losing a corporate sponsor and garnering calls for her dismissal from the Bravo show.

'I'm not a superspreader because there's nothing to spread,' Dodd said on Instagram Stories, 'because we all got the vaccine and we don't have it, so there's nothing to spread about superspreaders.'

On Saturday, she was seen with her husband Rick Leventhal, 61, and friends on a jovial maskless outing at a Newport Beach, California restaurant, with attendees joking about the virus at one point and mockingly toasting to 'super-spreaders.'

Dodd claimed she was 'getting a lot of hate for being at a restaurant we're allowed to be at' after California partially lifted dining restrictions amid the ongoing pandemic.

Positive Beverage has cut its ties with Dodd amid the blowback of Saturday's incident, Entertainment Tonight reported Sunday.

'Our core values of wellness, community, diversity and inclusion should be reflected by our brand and anyone associated with it,' Positive Beverage's Zach Muchnick said in a statement. 'It has become clear over the past few months that Kelly's controversial views and opinions have distracted from our primary objectives, so effective today, we are no longer affiliated with Kelly Dodd-Leventhal.'

Dodd seemed to take her firing from Positive Beverage in stride

Dodd seemed to take it in stride, saying on Twitter, 'I'm glad I could help put Positive Beverage on the map and wish them well. I'm also really excited about my next venture in the beauty industry, which is my real passion. Stay tuned!'

Dodd on Friday said she was secure in her spot on RHOC, saying she was 'not fired' from the series, implying one-time costar Vicki Gunvalson was behind the rumors.

Dodd made headlines in connection with the virus last April after saying on social media that she believed that the pandemic was 'Gods way of thinning the herd' as she argued with an Instagram user who called her out after taking a cross-country flight.

After a user wrote to Dodd, 'If non-essential workers keep traveling back and forth like you, it will last longer,' the reality star replied, 'Do you know how many people died from the H1N1, the swine flu or SARS? It’s 25% get your facts straight you are only hearing numbers not the reality! It’s God’s way of thinning the herd!'

She subsequently apologized for the remarks, clarifying how she meant the comment to land.

'When I wrote that it’s "God’s way of thinning the herd," that’s not what I meant,' Dodd said on Instagram Stories. 'What I meant was, "Do these pandemics happen because it’s God’s way?" I’m not God. I’m not insensitive.

'I feel bad for all the families that have lost loved ones, and I do think we should all stay at home and protect everybody. That’s not what I meant, and I want to apologize to anyone who got offended, OK? I’m sorry.'

Kelly Dodd Reacts to Getting Fired by Beverage Company After Making 'Controversial' COVID Comments - Yahoo Entertainment

Kelly Dodd/Instagram

Positive Beverage is no longer affiliated with Kelly Dodd.

In a statement released on Sunday, the beverage company said they did not want to be associated with The Real Housewives of Orange County star's "controversial views" on COVID-19.

"Our core values of wellness, community, diversity and inclusion should be reflected by our brand and anyone associated with it," Zach Muchnick, Positive Beverage Head of Brand, said in a statement on Instagram. "It has become clear over the past few months that Kelly's controversial views and opinions have distracted from our primary objectives, so effective today, we are no longer affiliated with Kelly Dodd-Leventhal."

CEO Shannon Argyros added in her own statement, "We welcome all people -- however they are and whatever they are passionate about -- to Positive Beverage. But there must always be an underlying layer of respect. Unfortunately, we feel Kelly's stance is no longer congruent with our core values. We appreciate her contributions during our affiliation, and she will always be a part of Positive Beverage's history, but we do not align with her opinions or global views while we uphold our own values."

Dodd, 45, who has had a partnership with Positive Beverage for the last two years and even bought a stake in the company in February 2019, reacted to the news on Twitter.

"I'm glad I could help put Positive Beverage on the map and wish them well," she wrote on Sunday. "I'm also really excited about my next venture in the beauty industry, which is my real passion. Stay tuned!"

Dodd's split from Positive Beverage comes after the reality star made comments about the coronavirus pandemic during her recent outings with friends. In several videos on her Instagram Story over the weekend, Dodd shared scenes of her and large groups of friends out for dinner and drinks in Newport Beach, California.

When she started receiving messages from fans concerned about dining protocols COVID-19, Dodd and her friends made comments about being "allowed" to be at the restaurant and how they should be able to "live normal lives."

"I'm not a super spreader because there is nothing to spread," Dodd later said in a separate video, claiming that she and her friends "all got the [COVID-19] vaccine."

A rep for Bravo told PEOPLE that Dodd "has not gotten the vaccine."

Currently, California is only in Phase 1B of vaccine rollout — meaning people over the age of 65 qualify for the vaccinations, as well as anyone who works in education, childcare, emergency services, and food and agriculture.

In another video posted on Saturday, Dodd and her friends likened COVID-19 restrictions to that of living in Russia.

This isn't the first time Dodd has said questionable claims about the ongoing pandemic, which has claimed the lives of over 439,000 Americans. In December, the mom of one appeared on an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen to express her remorse over saying that COVID-19 was "God's way of thinning the herd."

"At the time, it was a question — like, 'Why are all these people dying? ... Why [do] pandemics happen like this? Is it God's way of thinning the herd?' " said Dodd about the comment she made back in April on Instagram. "It was a stupid thing for me to say. It was insensitive and I apologize if I hurt or offended anybody, 'cause that wasn't really my intention. I got freaked out about it and in hindsight, it was the stupidest thing I've ever said."

"At first," the Bravo star added, she was "misinformed" about the virus, saying, "You guys have to realize this was back in January when this happened and I was misinformed."

"I'm claustrophobic and I can't stand wearing a mask — and now I understand the science behind it and I am ready, willing and able to wear a mask," she said. "And I know it's important, because I don't want to get sick and I don't want to get others sick. I'm just a human being; I make mistakes."

The reality star's estranged mother, Bobbi Meza, contracted the virus in November and was hospitalized.

Amazon's Ring has teamed up with over 2,000 police and fire departments - Engadget

Ring’s police collaborations didn’t slow down in 2020 despite controversies — if anything, they ramped up. The Financial Times reports that the Amazon-owned smart home security brand now has 2,014 police and fire department partnerships in the US, with 1,189 of them added in 2020. Montana and Wyoming are the only two states where Ring doesn’t have some kind of alliance.

Those departments are making use of the team-ups, too. Ring said that departments requested videos for over 22,335 incidents in 2020. There wasn’t comparable 2019 data, but some first responders were busier than others. Milwaukee police, for instance, requested videos for 431 incidents just in the second half of 2020 due to a high level of homicides.

While users gained more control over Ring video sharing in 2020 and just recently got end-to-end encryption, some of the privacy issues with these partnerships remained the same. Just because you’re comfortable with sharing videos doesn’t mean you’re in the clear — the Electronic Frontier Foundation told FT that neighbors and passers-by might be caught on camera without granting consent. This amounted to a “massive and unchallenged” surveillance network, according to the EFF.

If there’s a consolation, it’s that Ring isn’t simply handing over data without question. The company only handed over data 57 percent of the time versus 68 percent in 2019. That ratio is likely to fluctuate due to the very nature of incidents, but it’s evident Ring will say “no” if it feels a request is too vague or otherwise goes too far.

New renders depict the Galaxy Z Fold3 as a bendable S21 Ultra - Notebookcheck.net

The Galaxy Z Fold3 might look like this. (Source: Twitter)
The next generation of Samsung's flexible premium phablet is likely to be called the Galaxy Z Fold3. The leaker Ben Geskin has produced new images to show how this device might look according to the latest leaks and rumors. They point to it having rear cameras like those of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, although the rest is much unchanged compared to 2020.

Samsung is currently rumored to expand its foldable offerings in 2021, as it would reportedly like to stay ahead in this field rather than be overtaken by rumored new entries from other companies that might range from Xiaomi to Apple. They may take on new versions of the Galaxy Z Fold series, which, according to Ben Geskin, will take on their maker's latest premium design language.

This involves an enlarged, frame-hugging camera hump quite like that found on the new S21 Ultra candy-bar flagship. It suggests Geskin thinks (or may have heard) the Galaxy Z Fold3 will get the same elaborate imaging system, 108MP main shooter, laser autofocus and all.

The new image mirrors earlier indications that Samsung's other type of foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip, will upgrade to vanilla S21 cameras in its own new iteration. Otherwise, the "new Z Fold" may look more or less like its predecessor, with a secondary screen that dominates one whole "leaf" of the rear panel and a main folding display of at least 7.6 inches in diagonal length.

One or both of these panels are rumored to have Samsung's first under-display selfie cameras (or UDCs) instead of central punch-holes, which may be why Geskin's new render includes no hint of front-facing shooters. Finally, the leaker refers to this concept as the "Galaxy Z Fold 3 Ultra", which hints at a new (and probably especially expensive) tier for this line of foldables in 2021.

There is little other evidence that Samsung really plans to augment the Z Fold line in this way in 2021. On the other hand, it might also release up to 4 new foldables this year, some of which are said to be "more affordable". However, they might now wind up being cheaper only when compared to this putative Z Fold3 Ultra.

The Galaxy Z Fold2 is now on Newegg

The new hypothetical top-end phone could also be the only one with S Pen support, as Geskin has popped one into his latest image. Then again, he also predicts there will be no Galaxy Note-esque silo in the foldable, and that the stylus might just clip onto it as it does in the Galaxy Tab S7/S7+. Then again, there is no sign of any kind of corresponding magnetic attachment strip in the image.

John Krasinski, 'Saturday Night Live' roast Tom Brady for his support of Donald Trump - For The Win

Tom Brady wasn’t safe from ridicule on “Saturday Night Live” this week. During a cold open called “What Still Works,” a character played by Kate McKinnon interviews guests on a quest to find out what parts of the country are still functioning properly.

She rules out government, the stock market, social media and the coronavirus vaccine rollout (via an appearance by O.J. Simpson) before calling the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, played by John Krasinksi, to the stage.

She immediately tries to set up Brady as the antidote to the rest of her guests. He’s in his 10th Super Bowl despite being 43-years-old. He joined a Buccaneers franchise that has historically struggled and its fortunes changed. He’s expected to win — and he wins. Tom Brady still works.

Brady admits to McKinnon that, despite all this, few people root for him. And she says she’d be rooting for Brady because he’s “the only damn thing this country can still rely on.”

But, of course, there’s a hitch.

“And it’s not like you’re a weird Trump guy or anything, right?” McKinnon asks.

“Thanks for having me,” Krasinski says before bolting.

You can watch the bit at 6:21 in the video below.

Oof.

Brady’s relationship with Trump took center stage in 2015 when he was spotted with a “Make America Great Again” hat in his locker. When asked if Brady hoped Trump would be president, he showed support for Trump in his election against Hillary Clinton.

“I hope so. It would be great. There would be a putting green on the White House lawn, I’m sure of that,” Brady told reporters.

Brady, however, backed away from the political discussion as Trump’s campaign gained more momentum. His wife Gisele even wrote on Instagram that she and Brady wouldn’t support Trump. Brady dodged questions about his friendship with Trump until recently when he shared more insight.

“Then the whole political aspect came, and I think I got brought into a lot of those things because it was so polarizing around the election time. It was uncomfortable for me, because you can’t — and not that I would undo a friendship — but the political support is so different than support of a friend,” Brady said in an interview with Howard Stern on SiriusXM in April 2020.

Meghan Markle says Palace is behind decision to change Archie's birth certificate - Page Six

Meghan Markle is setting the record straight in regard to changes made to son Archie’s birth certificate.

In a statement Sunday to Page Six, a spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex, 39, said the omission of her given name, “Rachel Meghan,” to Archie’s birth papers was a call made by The Palace.

“The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials. This was not requested by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex nor by The Duke of Sussex,” the statement read.

Over the weekend, an updated piece of Archie’s birth certificate surfaced online, with The UK’s The Sun highlighting the changes made to Markle’s name. She’s now listed as, “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex,” while Harry, 36, is regarded as, “His Royal Highness Prince Henry Charles Albert David Duke of Sussex.”

The changes were made in June 2019, a month after the birth of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

A spokesperson for Markle also slammed speculation the edits were a dig at sister-in-law Kate Middleton, who shares three young children with Harry’s older brother, Prince William.

The Sussexes, who have been married since 2018, stepped down as “senior” royals last January. They currently reside in California.

A Top 5G Stock to Watch This Earnings Season - The Motley Fool

The 5G smartphone market is about to blow up in 2021. Apple supplier Murata estimates that sales of 5G smartphones could exceed 500 million units in the new year compared to 300 million units in 2020. Market research firm Strategy Analytics has a more aggressive forecast -- predicting a 150% jump in 5G smartphone sales this year from 2020's estimated shipments of 250 million units.

Qorvo (NASDAQ:QRVO) offers one path for investors to take advantage of this huge jump in 5G smartphone sales. The chipmaker supplies radio-frequency chips to several major smartphone OEMs (original equipment manufacturers). Not surprisingly, Qorvo's revenue and earnings have accelerated big time lately -- a trend that's likely to continue when the chipmaker releases its fiscal 2021 third-quarter results on Feb. 3. Here's what to expect.

Qorvo is about to deliver big gains once again

Analysts expect Qorvo to deliver non-GAAP earnings of $2.66 per share on revenue of $1.06 billion for the December quarter. These estimates are in line with management's guidance and well ahead of the year-ago period's $1.86 in earnings per share and $869 million of revenue.

But don't be surprised to see the company blast past its own expectations. That's because Apple, which reportedly accounts for a third of Qorvo's sales, has potentially scaled its iPhone production in the final calendar quarter of 2020. Supply chain checks carried out by Wedbush Securities analyst Daniel Ives suggest Apple could have built close to 90 million iPhones in the fourth quarter, up from his original estimate of 65 million to 70 million units from Sept. 2020.

Such an impressive jump in iPhone production through the quarter doesn't seem surprising as demand for the iPhone 12 is very strong. After all, it didn't take much time for the device to become the best-selling 5G smartphone globally, so Apple alone could give Qorvo a nice lift and help it outperform Wall Street estimates when the company releases its results this week.

The party is just getting started

Analysts believe Qorvo will be able to sustain its high growth rate with the top line growing 19% year over year in the fiscal fourth quarter, while earnings increase 27% to $2.00 per share.

However, there's a strong possibility of Qorvo exceeding those estimates. Cowen analysts estimate Apple could ramp up its March quarter iPhone builds to 55 million units, up 49% year over year. Wedbush has an even more aggressive forecast, estimating iPhone builds between 60 million and 70 million units in the current quarter. What's more, the momentum is expected to spill over into the second quarter of the calendar year as well with Apple expected to make at least 40 million iPhone units.

All of this bodes well for Qorvo given its close relationship with the tech giant. However, the chipmaker is sitting on additional growth drivers such as Samsung's recently launched Galaxy S21 flagship. Qorvo has been a longtime supplier of RF chips to Samsung's Galaxy line of smartphones, including Galaxy S20 devices last year, and it's likely to have retained its spot in the new release.

That's because Samsung's Galaxy S21 Ultra comes equipped with WiFi 6E connectivity, and Qorvo had indicated on its last earnings call that it's "actively supporting leading OEMs in the design of 6E platforms." Counterpoint Research estimates Galaxy S21 shipments could surpass those of the Galaxy S20 by the middle of this year. That wouldn't be surprising as Samsung has slashed the base prices of the Galaxy S21 models by $200 compared to the previous S20 lineup.

Qorvo can ride the success of its mobile customers and maintain its impressive growth rate. More importantly, investors shouldn't forget the 5G smartphone market still has a lot of growth to offer as shipments may hit 1.5 billion units by 2025. In this environment, Qorvo can remain a top 5G play long term, and a strong showing in the upcoming earnings report should give investors the right push to buy the stock.

Hilton Valentine, guitarist with the Animals, dies aged 77 - BBC News

Hilton Valentine in 1964

The Animals guitarist Hilton Valentine, who created one of the most famous riffs in pop music in the 1960s, has died at the age of 77.

The British band's version of blues standard The House of The Rising Sun topped the UK and US charts in 1964.

The Animals' record label ABKCO Music described Valentine as a "pioneering guitar player influencing the sound of rock and roll for decades to come".

North Shields-born Valentine died on Friday, ABKCO said on Twitter.

Valentine co-founded the Animals in Newcastle in 1963 alongside singer Eric Burdon, bassist Chas Chandler, organist Alan Price and drummer John Steel.

The group also scored six other UK top 10 hits including Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood and We Gotta Get Out of This Place.

Valentine left The Animals for a solo career after the original line-up split in 1966, but he went on take part in several reunions and toured with Burdon in 2007.

Based in Connecticut in recent years, he also released music with his band Skiffledog.

Burdon paid tribute to Valentine on Instagram, writing: "The opening opus of Rising Sun will never sound the same!... You didn't just play it, you lived it! Heartbroken by the sudden news of Hilton's passing.

"We had great times together, Geordie lad. From the North Shields to the entire world...Rock In Peace."

ABKCO Music said: "Our deepest sympathies go out to Hilton Valentine's family and friends."

Lenny Kravitz Pens Tribute to Godmother Cicely Tyson, 'A Black Queen Who Showed Us How Beautiful Black Is' - Billboard

Among her many accomplishments, including being the recipient of three Emmy Awards, Tyson was the first African-American to win a lead actress Emmy, for her performance portraying a woman from the 1850s to the civil-rights era in the 1974 CBS telefilm The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. She notably received an Oscar nomination for her role in 1972's Sounder, and she won a Tony award in 2013 for her work in The Trip to Bountiful.

"The love between us was and is tremendous," Kravitz said in his post. "As long as I have had consciousness, I’ve known Godmother. She and my mother were kindred spirits. Sisters. And after my mother passed, Godmother's role in my life was amplified. I constantly felt her spirit over me. She always gave me unconditional support. She came to my shows, came over for holidays, met me for dinners, stayed with me in Paris when I first moved there, and never let me too far out of her sight. Our phone calls went on sometimes for hours."

"We spoke just a few nights ago and talked about everything. She had just sent me her book that has been sitting on my nightstand where it will remain. She did it all, wrote the book, and then God called her. I can hear Godmother saying 'ok, now y’all can read about it, I’m going home.' Rest peacefully, Godmother. You did it all exquisitely," wrote Kravitz, referring to her just-published memoir, Just As I Am.

Chrome Beta 89 updates Discover feed, enables web sharing on the desktop, and much more (APK Download) - Android Police

Chrome 88 was released only last week, marking the release of the Manifest V3 extension API, changes to password management, and the official death of Adobe Flash support. Chrome 89 has now arrived in the Beta Channel, and it seems to be an even bigger release — even if many of its changes are hidden to most people. Let's dive in!

Privacy Sandbox

Google first announced Privacy Sandbox all the way back in 2019, as the company's planned replacement for third-party browser cookies. It's still very much a work in progress, but Google aims for it to be "a secure environment for personalization that also protects user privacy." Chrome 89 has the first pieces of the personalization interface, currently hidden behind a new flag: #privacy-sandbox-settings.

With the flag enabled, a new page for Privacy Sandbox can be found in Settings > Privacy and security > Privacy sandbox. There's currently a single toggle, which enables 'Web crowd and ad measurement.' Google explained how this works in a recent blog post:

Federated Learning of Cohorts (FLoC) [Privacy Sandbox] proposes a new way for businesses to reach people with relevant content and ads by clustering large groups of people with similar interests. This approach effectively hides individuals “in the crowd” and uses on-device processing to keep a person’s web history private on the browser.

By creating simulations based on the principles defined in Chrome’s FLoC proposal, Google’s ads teams have tested this privacy-first alternative to third-party cookies. Results indicate that when it comes to generating interest-based audiences, FLoC can provide an effective replacement signal for third-party cookies.

Google isn't allowing sites to use Privacy Sandbox yet, but now we know where you'll be able to manage its settings once the feature is finished.

Discover feed

Chrome 89 has a few changes to the Discover feed on the New Tab Page. Currently, articles in the Discover section are listed in cards, but in Chrome 89 they are only separated by dividers. The title font also seems to be slightly bigger, and perhaps most importantly, the description preview has been removed.

Chrome 88 (left) vs. Chrome 89 (right)

It's interesting to see Google experiment with removing the teaser text. In most cases, they're too short to provide any helpful context or added information, and removing them potentially allows more articles to appear on-screen at once.

Google is testing a new interface for the site info popup on Android, which appears when you press the 'I' or lock icon in the address bar. The popup normally shows the full address, information about page security, and a list of granted permissions. Chrome 89 includes a new flag (#page-info-discoverability) that updates the popup's design.

Left: Old UI; Center, Right: New UI

The new popup fits in better with Google's updated design language, and you can revoke permissions without opening Chrome's normal settings panel.

Web NFC API

Google first began testing NFC in web apps with the release of Chrome 81. That version added initial support for the Web NFC API, allowing sites to read and write NFC tags. It's mainly intended for inventory management, conferences, museum exhibits, and anywhere else NFC is frequently used. Starting with Chrome 89, the Web NFC API is enabled by default on Android.

Web NFC demo from Chrome Dev Summit 2019

The Web NFC API is limited to reading and writing NDEF data, so low-level operations like ISO-DEP, NFC-A/B, NFC-F are not supported. Peer-to-peer communication mode and Host-based Card Emulation (HCE) also won't work. Unfortunately, that probably rules out any chances of someone creating an Amiibo creator web app.

Like with microphones, cameras, and other hardware features, NFC requires granting a permission from a popup. It will be interesting to see how the API will be used in the coming years.

Web Sharing on desktop

Chrome on Android has supported the Web Share and Web Share Target APIs for a while now, which allows web apps to send and receive data with Android's native share menu. The features have gone a long way to blur the lines between native and web apps on Android, but annoyingly, they haven't been available on desktop platforms (except with Safari on macOS)... until now.

Web sharing on Chrome OS 89

With the release of Chrome 89, web sharing (where web apps can open the system share dialog) is now available on Windows and Chrome OS, and web apps can function as a target on Chrome OS. Developers won't have to add any extra code for the functionality to work on desktop platforms.

Other changes

As always, this update includes changes for both users and developers. Here are some smaller changes included in Chrome 89:

  • Chrome added support for text fragment links in 2019, which are links that automatically scroll to a certain string of text. Google Search started using them in 2020, and now websites can change how the highlighted portions look like with the new CSS ::target-text pseudo-element.
  • Chrome 89 can load AVIF content natively using AV1 decoders on Android and WebView.
  • The CSS property 'list-style-type' supports two new keywords: 'disclosure-open' and 'disclosure-closed'.
  • The default value of CSS 'display' property for <summary> has been changed from 'block' to 'list-item'.
  • Chrome now supports the CSS property 'overflow:clip,' which allows web pages to turn off any type of scrolling for a box. It uses less RAM than 'overflow: hidden,' which is often used for the same purpose.
  • Google has added a new cross-origin reporting API for sites to track usage across different web domains.
  • Sites can now detect if the current device is set to high contrast display mode, using the new forced-colors CSS media query (similar to how detection for dark mode works).
  • Some legacy prefixed events (webkitprerenderstart, webkitprerenderstop, webkitprerenderload, and webkitprerenderdomcontentloaded) have been removed.
  • Chrome now supports the 'await' keyword at the top level in JavaScript modules.
  • The chrome://media-internals page will be removed in Chrome 91, and Chrome 89 includes a new flag (#enable-media-internals) that toggles access to the page.
  • The new flag #enable-table-ng is available in Chrome 89, which enables the new Blink table layout engine, TableNG.
  • There's a new flag for enabling "a rich bottom sheet" for installing Progressive Web Apps on Android, #mobile-pwa-install-use-bottom-sheet, but it doesn't appear to do anything yet.
  • When you enter a website in the Chrome address bar, it currently adds "http://" to the front by default. Chrome 89 has a new flag (#omnibox-default-typed-navigations-to-https) that changes this behavior, and if the website doesn't appear to support HTTPS, Chrome will fall back to the HTTP URL.
  • Chrome 89 has initial support for XFA forms in the PDF reader.
  • A new flag, #read-later-reminder-notification, adds a popup when an article in your reading list has been unread for a week.
  • The Web Serial API, which allows web apps to communicate with hardware over serial connections, is now enabled by default on Windows and Chrome OS. It was previously only enabled by default on Android.
  • The WebHID API allows sites to more easily use gamepads and other interface devices, and it's enabled by default with Chrome 89.

Download

The APK is signed by Google and upgrades your existing app. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the file is safe to install and was not tampered with in any way. Rather than wait for Google to push this download to your devices, which can take days, download and install it just like any other APK.
